Warning Regarding Posul Shofaros from Morocco

Warning Regarding Posul Shofaros from Morocco

Eretz Yisroel: According to a Kol Chai Radio report, rabbanim have issued a warning to people buying a shofar this Elul to be well aware of the origin of the particular shofar they are purchasing.

Apparently, there are shofaros originating in Morocco which have cracks and have been glued, rendering them posul.

Rabbanim generally re-issue a warning before Elul for well-intending consumers to know where they purchase a shofar since not everything that appears kosher to perform the mitzvah is.

In this case, the glued areas are apparently not easily detected. One must make certain a shofar has a proper hechsher that ensures it origin and the process were both under a reliable supervision and that the shofar is kosher to perform this ever important mitzvah.
