At-Risk Jewish Youth to Receive New Academic and Emotional Support

New York City - At-risk Brooklyn teens will receive new academic and emotional support, Representative Anthony Weiner (D-Brooklyn and Queens) announced today. Weiner secured over $40,000 in federal funds through the 2008 Commerce Justice Science Appropriations bill for Bnos Leah Prospect Park Yeshiva to continue their extensive after-school program.

"The Save Our Children After-School? program, which was founded six years ago and meets daily four days a week, targets over 50 at-risk children and teens. The program empowers them through an extensive educational plan, including academic enrichment, recreational activities, and involvement with local communities. Providing the youth with a safe and productive environment, the program aims to build confidence, creative thinking, and emotional development, strengthening the youths academic and social foundation.

Rep. Weiner said, "At-risk youth are only at-risk if we turn our backs on them. Bnos Leah Prospect Park Yeshiva will be fully equipped to provide the tools and attention needed to continue their successful after-school program.?

Founded in 1954, Bnos Leah Prospect Park Yeshiva is an all-girls school which serves over 600 students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
