El Al Flight Lands Without Incident Following Bomb Scare

El Al Flight Lands Without Incident Following Bomb Scare

An El Al Boeing 767 jumbo jet traveling from France to Tel Aviv on Wednesday became the target of a bomb threat. As a result, fighter jets were scrambled to escort the jumbo jet, FLT 324, as it flew through France, Italy and Greece, and eventually, Israel. NATO fighter planes also escorted the El Al flight at some point while traveling through Europe. The terror alert was for that specific flight and ISA (Israel Security Agency Shin Bet) officials were not taking any chances.

The plane landed in Ben-Gurion International Airport at about 7:30PM Wednesday without incident. An inspection of the craft followed the uneventful landing.

Officials explained the fighter plane escort is to make certain the plane does not attempt to take a different course than the one charted by traffic controllers in the event terrorists were planning something.

El Al officials praised the cooperation of the different countries which assisted in security efforts during the ordeal.
