Almost like clockwork, as the Yomim Tovim approach employees in Ben-Gurion International Airport begin threatening a strike. On Wednesday, workers began a work slowdown so if you are one of hundreds of thousands of passengers expected to pass through the airport during the Tishrei holiday season, you might think twice about planning to take off on time or landing and receiving your luggage without a hitch. During Wednesdays work slowdown, 20 flights were delayed for 20 minutes to an hour.
Employees this week declared a ?work dispute. During the two-week period of a ?work dispute a strike is not permitted. The time period is to permit negotiations to prevent a strike but if an agreement is not reached, a strike is permitted following the hiatus period.
One of the passengers commented on Wednesday that the behavior of airport workers is disgraceful, explaining they always fight their battles on "the backs of travelers? and once again times it during peak season. During the coming days and weeks, 55,000 passengers are expected to pass through the airport daily.
