IT'S OFFICIAL: Bloomberg Announces Plans To Seek Third Term!

Just moments ago, Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced that he looks forward to spending another four years at City Hall. At a noon press conference, hizzoner looked voters in the eye and told them what he's been coy about for months: That he wants to stay in City Hall for another four years and asked the City Council to change the law to let him run for a third term.

At the moment, Bloomberg is popular and it appears he would make a formidable incumbent with plenty of money to spend on a third race. Just 26 city council members would have to vote to change the law.

Some say it's not their place to reverse the will of the voters who voted twice for a two-term limit. Changing the law to give Mayor Mike another four years would have big pros and cons for people all throughout city government.

Mayor Bloomberg has been canvassing council members for weeks to gauge their support and he wouldn't be publicly calling on them to change the law tomorrow unless he knew it would have a good chance of passing.

The Mayor said that the financial crisis facing the nation, and NYC in particular has made him make his decision to have term-limits extended.

The mayor stressed that he thinks term limits are a good thing, but feels that three terms as opposed to the current two terms are a better choice.

"Like it's always been in New York, the people will decide. They can judge from my record and decide if I've earned another term," the mayor said on Thursday.
