Eli Yifrach, who heads the Ashkelon Chevra Kadisha, has instructed his staff that there are to be no Hespedim (eulogies) at funerals due to the security situation. The ?tahara room is the only fortified room in the chapel complex, and as such, Yifrach may not permit participants in levayos to congregate in a hesped room.
In addition, all memorial services and planned visits to kevarim have been prohibited until further notice due to the danger of being caught in a rocket attack. The citys chief rabbi, Rabbi Yosef Chaim Blau has instructed residents to avoid visits to the cemetery, and funerals are to be conducted with a minimum number, no more than a minyan.
Rav Blau stated "To visit the cemetery today is pikuach nefesh?.
