Garden State Parkway Tokens Set to Expire

Garden State Parkway Tokens Set to Expire

The 33-cent Garden State Parkway tokens were once the currency of the road. But after today, they'll be history.

Their use has tapered off since the age of E-ZPass began on the toll road a little more than eight years ago. Sales stopped in 2002.

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority decided that 2008 would be the last year the little coins would be accepted.

They can be used today. Also, the Turnpike Authority was planning to redeem them for face value until 1:30 p.m. at the Authority's Woodbridge headquarters.

The Authority believes millions of them are still in circulation, even after close to 200,000 have been redeemed.
