Calls are already being heard that Israel may not entertain any cessation of the ongoing military assault against Gaza-based terrorists without the release of captive soldier Gilad Shalit as a precondition.

While major Hamas strikes are expected in retaliation for the Israeli offensive, it is only a matter of time until the terrorist organizations resources begin to dwindle and the infrastructure of the Hamas army crumbles if Israel decides to maintain the pressure.

There are already calls to senior government officials to reject any talk of a halt in military operations without first securing the release of Shalit, who is marking his third Chanukah in Hamas captivity.

Analysts explain that government officials are well-aware that the current offensive only serves to complicate Shalits condition and any subsequent efforts towards obtaining his release.
