In a show of solidarity with a country at war, NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg has arrived in Israel, YWN has learned.
Although the exact details of the trip have not been publicized due to security concerns, YWN has confirmed that Bloomberg will be visiting the cities of Sderot and Ashkelon early Sunday morning / afternoon, and plans to visit New Yorkers who have moved to Israel.
The Mayor is traveling with NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly and Chairman of the House Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia Congressman Gary Ackerman (D-NY).
The Mayor is also scheduled to meet with high-level officials, including Prime Minister Olmert, and plans on returning to NYC on Monday morning.
The mayor "is going in order to show his support for Israel," said spokesman Andrew Brent.
The trip comes as Israel launched a full-blown ground offensive in Gaza following eight days of punishing air strikes that failed to halt militant rocket attacks on Israel.
Complete coverage on the trip - as well as photos will be posted on YWN as soon as they become available to us.
