Security Cabinet Votes to Widen Gaza Operation

Following a Friday meeting of the Security Cabinet, the decision was made to expand the ground forces operation in Gaza, realizing that while Hamas has suffered a major blow, more must be done to eliminate the terror regimes ability to launch rockets into southern Israel at will.

Reservists have been activated and involved in military exercises to prepare them for the mission and at present, over 10,000 soldiers await the order to move ahead into phase 3 of Operation Cast Lead to hopefully apprehend and eliminate members of the Izzadin el-Kassam, the Hamas military wing believed behind to be the backbone of the rocket-firing mechanism.

On motzei Shabbos, Defense Minister Ehud Barak held high-level consultations and reports indicate he remains determined to continue to phase 3 despite growing opposition from the international community. (Yechiel Spira YWN Israel)
