For the past three weeks, store owners in Williamsburg have been calling Shomrim (WSPU) with reports of a person entering their stores, making a small purchase, and handing the cashier a $20 bill - which were all found to be counterfeit.
The man had always evaded the response of Shomrim units, until Monday afternoon.
The wanted man entered Lee Gardens Supermarket located on Lee & Flushing Avenue's, made a small purchase, and handed the cashier a $20 bill.
Recognizing the man, the owner of the establishment quickly phoned Williamsburg Shomrim. In seconds - before the man even received his change - Shomrim units had arrived, and apprehended the suspect. The NYPD was called, and arrived minutes later to make the arrest.
A spokesperson for WSPU told YWN that the man had used counterfeit money "in at least 20 stores during a three week period. We quickly called many store owners who arrived with their 'fake 20s' before the NYPD had removed the suspect from the scene, and had them all filecomplaints as well."
YWN has learned that Shomrim has received a major "thank-you phone call" from the NYPD's 90th Precinct, and they informed them that the US Secret Service has since been called, and will be handling the investigation.
Another job well done by Williamsburg Shomrim!
