Joseph Bruno, once one of the most powerful politicians in the state, was indicted Friday on federal corruption charges.
Federal prosecutors said from 1993 through 2006 Bruno sought to enrich himself from some seeking business with the state.
In court papers, investigators highlighted more than $3 million in payments received from people and entities seeking state business.

Bruno, a republican from Rensselaer County, had been the Senate Majority leader until he stepped down last July.
The FBI said Bruno sought union to hire an investment firm, Wright Investors Services, a company officials said then paid Bruno approximately $1.3 million dollars over a 13-year period.
Bruno's lawyer could not be reached for comment. Officials are expected to announce the charges later Friday.
